SVG to ICO Converter

Drop an SVG below and get an ICO file back. The vector is drawn at each size you choose, from 16 to 256 px, so every icon in the .ico is rendered for its own pixel grid instead of being shrunk from one large bitmap. Use the result as favicon.ico or as a Windows icon. An SVG you add from your device stays in your browser.

Drag and drop an SVG or paste it from the clipboard
or click to browsePaste from clipboard (Ctrl+V)
Supported: png, jpg, webp, gif, bmp, avif, svg. Max 10MB.

Check your SVG before converting

  • Give it a viewBox. The root svg element needs a viewBox attribute so the drawing can scale to a square. Without one the icon can come out cropped, off-centre or blank.
  • Outline the text. Live text renders with whatever fonts the browser has installed. Convert text to paths in Figma, Illustrator or Inkscape so the letters look the same on every machine.
  • Embed images and styles. A browser drawing an SVG onto a canvas won't load linked images or external stylesheets, so they vanish from the icon. Inline images as data URIs and keep the CSS inside the file.
  • Simplify for 16 px. Strokes thinner than a pixel blur into grey at 16 and 32 px. If the icon will mostly be seen in a browser tab, thicken thin lines and drop fine detail before converting.

How to convert SVG to ICO

  1. Add the SVG. Drag it onto the upload box, choose it from your device, or paste it. Files up to 10 MB are accepted.
  2. Pick sizes. Keep 16, 32 and 48 px for a favicon. Add 256 px if Windows will show it as an app icon.
  3. Choose scaling. Contain keeps the whole logo inside the square. Leave the background Transparent unless you want white behind it.
  4. Convert and save. Click Convert, then download the .ico. Several SVGs can be saved together as a ZIP with Download Files.

SVG to ICO questions

Why is my ICO blank or missing parts?

Usually the SVG has no viewBox, links to an external image or stylesheet, or uses a font your browser doesn't have. Fix those in the SVG and convert again. The SVG to ICO troubleshooting guide covers each case.

Does the ICO stay a vector?

No. An ICO holds bitmap images at fixed sizes, so the SVG is rasterized once for each size you pick. Keep the SVG as your master file.

Will the icon be sharp at 16 px?

It is rendered directly at 16 × 16, which is as sharp as that size allows. Detail finer than one pixel still can't survive, so simplify thin lines first.

Should I ship an SVG favicon instead?

Most current browsers accept an SVG favicon through a link tag, but many tools and older browsers still request /favicon.ico. Plenty of sites ship both: the SVG for modern browsers and an ICO as the fallback.
