PNG to ICO Converter

Drop a PNG in the box below to turn it into an ICO file. Pick the sizes you want between 16 and 256 px and you get one .ico that works as a favicon.ico or a Windows icon. Transparent areas stay transparent, and a PNG you add from your device is converted in your browser without being uploaded.

Drag and drop a PNG or paste it from the clipboard
or click to browsePaste from clipboard (Ctrl+V)
Supported: png, jpg, webp, gif, bmp, avif, svg. Max 10MB.

What the converter does with a PNG

  • Transparency is kept. With the background set to Transparent, the alpha channel goes into every size in the ICO. Choose White if you want transparent areas filled in.
  • Each size is rendered on its own. Every size you tick is drawn from your PNG at that size and stored in the same .ico, so a browser tab can use the 16 px copy while Windows picks the 48 or 256 px one.
  • Non-square images still fit. Contain adds padding and Cover crops the edges. Use Edit to crop the image yourself before you convert.
  • Bigger sources look better. A PNG of 256 × 256 px or more gives the 256 px icon full detail. A smaller one gets scaled up and looks soft.

How to convert PNG to ICO

  1. Add the PNG. Drag it onto the upload box, choose it from your device, or paste it from the clipboard. Each file can be up to 10 MB.
  2. Choose sizes. All six sizes are selected by default. For a website favicon, 16, 32 and 48 px are enough.
  3. Set scaling and background. Contain with a Transparent background suits most logos.
  4. Convert and download. Click Convert, then download the .ico. If you added several PNGs, Download Files saves them all as one ZIP.

PNG to ICO questions

Does the ICO keep my PNG's transparent background?

Yes, as long as the background option is set to Transparent. Every size inside the ICO keeps the alpha channel. Setting it to White fills transparent pixels with white.

Which sizes should a favicon.ico have?

16, 32 and 48 px cover browser tabs, bookmarks and the Windows taskbar. Add 256 px if the same file will also be a Windows app icon. The favicon sizes guide lists where each size is used.

Is my PNG uploaded to a server?

Not when you add it from your device. The conversion runs in your browser. Importing from a URL or a cloud drive downloads that file first.

Can I convert several PNGs at once?

Yes. Add them together and each one becomes its own .ico file. Download them one at a time or all together as a ZIP.
